It's that day of the week again, Friday! You know that day that introduces you to a long, relaxing weekend. I already have some down-to-earth plans for my weekend like doing some grocery shopping, housework (rather not cool) and baking a (hopefully) delicious lemon cake. But the best of my weekend is a huge amount of time for my projects!

This week I started a new granny square blanket that will hopefully become bigger than throw size like my last two granny blankets. As a pattern I chose the flowers in the snow granny square that can be found here at Solstrikke. For the first time I am using the joining as you go method and I love it!

While the granny blanket is in its early stages my current knitting project is progressing faster than I thought. I joined the sleeves of the Sibella Cardigan this week and I started working on the lace section. It's so satisfying to watch the lace pattern grow with every row.

Now I have to get back to my hooks and needles.

Have a great weekend!

As I was mentioning in one of my last posts I just finished a project I had been working on since May 2014. So almost a whole year I put this beautiful edged shawl on and off my needles constantly.

I started working on the Quill shawl after I passed my state exam in May. After months of stress and learning 24/7 I finally found time to work on bigger, time-consuming projects again instead of only crocheting a few granny squares in between every now and then.

Just a few days after my exam we went to the South of Sweden for vacation. This is where I started working on the shawl. Then I wouldn't have thought that it will take me 10 months to finish it. I'm really proud that I proved the persistence to finish this shawl as it wasn't always fun to do yet another pattern repeat for the never-ending edge. But altogether it was a pleasant project and the result is simply gorgeous.

After two disappointing days of sleet and snow slush we finally woke up to find the trees covered in a soft blanket of snow. Whereas the streets and pavements were already slushy again, the trees and the park looked like a winter wonder land. This year we haven't been spoiled with snow and that's why I'm really happy to see the city covered in white.

So this Saturday I took a long walk to enjoy the cold and take some pictures. But then suddenly I was drawn to the nearest yarn shop. Before I even knew what was happening I was standing in front of a wide range of beautiful colored cotton yarns I've admired for a few weeks now. This time I couldn't resist and had to buy a nice collection of happy colors for a new granny square project.

I hope you had a peaceful weekend. The rest of the Sunday I will slowly grow onto my couch, drink tea, knit, crochet.

Sometimes I have so many crochet and knit ideas in my head that I start to feel overwhelmed. I am like a little child in a toy store that is only allowed to choose one thing. There are so many projects I want to start preferably now and all at once of course. There are so many techniques I want to learn, so many colour and stitch combinations I want to try, so many patterns I want to create myself eventually. The list could go on forever.

To clear my crammed brain (imagine a drawer stuffed to the edge with different papers) and sort my ideas it helps me to do something completely different for a while. A few days ago I bought the Flow magazine which had a little hand-lettering practise booklet as an extra. First I thought I didn't need a booklet about hand-lettering (what is this anyway?) but then I tried it and couldn't stop to draw letters in all kinds of shapes and forms.

It felt like some kind of meditation whereas choosing and tweaking crochet and knitting projects felt sometimes like stress in the last few days. Now I try to practise Hand-Lettering everyday for 30 Minutes or so to calm down and relax.

Of course I couldn't help but start a new project after all, at least it's a small one. Lately I fell in love with tapestry crochet after I saw some really nice projects on Pinterest. I decided to try this new-to-me technique with a pattern I found in an old Simply Crochet magazine. I resisted the urge to go and buy brand new yarn for this i pad cover as I have so much yarn in my stash. However I'm not too happy with the colours as they rather blend than contrast each other.

Have a happy weekend!

Oh don't you just love the feeling of finishing another project?

There are those long-term projects that make you proud and satisfied. You proved yourself that you can be persistend and patient. I'm very close to finishing a project I am working on since May 2014! It took me almost one year to finish it but more on that in the next post.

On the other hand there are those projects that are gratifying because they are quick to work and give you almost instant satisfaction. You can watch them grow almost every day. In creative life I always need projects from both categories to keep me happy and motivated.

The Triangular Granny Pillow was clearly an instant satisfying project. It took me about two weeks (next to other projects) to finish this soft colored pillow case. For this project I altered a pattern I found in the Simply Crochet Magazin #1 to make the triangles smaller. When I started this project just like that I didn't think it would make such trouble to join the triangles. Maybe I should have worked some kind of space where the triangles meet because after joining they were totally squished. Nevertheless blocking made everything look better again. Yet there are many bumps and holes. For the back I worked half double crochet.

When crocheting I fell in love with the color combination mustard yellow and pale rose- I have to make a project with these colors soon.

I dont't know what happened but this Saturday morning I woke up at 10:40. Usually I like to get up early for the weekend to enjoy the unique morning tranquility. On days like this I make myself a coffee and use the extra time to make some progress in my projects. Or else I like to make an early morning walk to get some fresh air and a clear mind.

But this morning was different and now I can't help but feeling a little bit deprived of my precious morning hours and the extra time I usually enjoy so much. It feels like the weekend is almost half over which isn't true of course.

Probably it was time I needed a good long night's sleep.

During the last days I made some progress with the sibella cardigan. I already finished the body and started working on the first sleeve yesterday. My other project for this weekend is my triangular granny pillow that only needs a back. I still can't decide how to make the back (half double crochet rows, a giant granny square or even fabric)....

Very soon me and my boyfriend will move out of our tiny apartment. Last year we both finished our studies and now it's time to dive into the working life. Making money and stuff! Though I am a little bit sad that the unique freedom of being a student is finally over I can't wait to start a "grown-up" life with a nice, new apartment and a little bit of extra money in my pocket.

One of my top priorities for our new apartment is the question where to put my (ever growing) yarn stash, the sewing machine and all the other crafty stuff. I dream of having a small studio all for myself or at least a generous corner in the bedroom.

Currently part of my yarn lives in a big box, crammed full and chaotic. The other part is distributed to several small boxes. I often forget about some of the yarns because I can't see them all the time and I always have to rummage to find certain balls of wool. Not cool!

Instead of hiding all my beautiful yarns I dream of showing them off! Right now I am into the idea of storing them in wired boxes, arranged on a simple wooden shelf. To visualize my ideas I put together a mood board.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1246278393549903709.post-49893014315171612782015-01-18T14:41:00.001+01:002015-01-24T13:06:48.228+01:00Happy Weekend

It's Sunday afternoon wich means the weekend is almost over. Yesterday my Mom came and we took a trip to a huge new mall that opened in Berlin a few weeks ago. We spend most of the time in a craft shop. My Mom bought some beads for making a necklace and I, what a surprise, bought yarn.
There was this lovely yellow/lime coloured sock yarn I couldn't resist. I added a light grey shade and plan to make some kind of easy fair-isle sock pattern. I think these two colors look lovely toghether.

Currently I am working on two projects at a time. Usually I try not to have too many wip (=work in progress) projects because that makes me feel sometimes a little bit overwhelmed. However I have to admit that I have put two further projects on hold...that makes four all together if we're honest.

According to my new year resolutions I started a crochet project. I really love granny squares! In 2014 I worked a pillowcase and a blanket in the classic granny square pattern, this time I wanted to do something different. I altered a pattern I found in the Simply Crochet magazine #1 to make another bright pillowcase.

Yesterday I cast on a lovely cardigan by Carrie Bostick Hoge named Sibel. This is going to be the perfect light cardigan for spring, I can already imagine me wearing it with a nice dress while sitting outside in the sunshine. I chose my favorite yarn wich is Alpaca by Drops. The yarn is very thin and this project is probably going to take forever. But I really want to take time with this project!

Do you know Ysolda Teagues Strokkur Sweater? I love this pattern so much that I had to knit it twice! I chose Ysoldas Strokkur Sweater as a first time color-work project and I couldn't have been luckier with my choice. The sweater knits up very fast thanks to thick, fluffy yarn. While you work your way bottom up you can prepare yourself mentally for that final color-work part. The good news color work isn't that hard and this particular pattern is really easy to knit.

For my second Strokkur I chose a limited edition yarn I had in my stash for ages. The yarn is called Drops Loves You IV by Garnstudio, it's a wool-alpaca-mixture with 5% linen. I was really surprise how soft and fluffy this yarn feels.
Sorry for the crappy wordplay in the title but I couldn't resist.
So this is my very first post and without further ado I want to write down my creative new year resolutions for 2015. If you want to know more about the author of this humble blog please check my about page.

Work with different fibers - I am a creature of habit. Until now I stuck to the same yarn company and the same kind of fibers, mostly sheep wool, alpaca or cotton. I really like that yarn company for its reasonable prices but slowly but steady I get bored knitting and crocheting with the same yarns over and over again. Please more variation in 2015!

Designing some own patterns - I really don't want to think about the amount of money I invested in knitting patterns since I started knitting. All of these patterns were well written, fun to knit and resulted in beautiful garments. I learned a lot but now I often think about designing my own stuff. Let's get creative!

Dyeing Yarn - Yes! This is something I wanted to do for a long time and I just cant stop admiring hand dyed yarns when I stumble across such treasures.

More Crocheting - In 2014 I became kind of obsessive about knitting. I neglected my crochet hooks for weeks and months although there are some many beautiful crochet projects out there.

Sew a Garment - It's been almost a year since I bought a very lovely book about sewing clothes ("Simple Modern Sewing" by Shufu To Seikatsu Sha) but I didn't manage to realize even one single project. Actually I really suck at sewing (that's why I prefer one-piece-knitting) but I really want to give it a try!

Buy more Flowers - Ok, this is nothing crafty but I love flowers and I thought this resolution would make a great closing for this list.
